Some Come, Some Go, But I'm Back And Feeling Better!
« on: June 16, 2010, 07:10:30 PM »
Might not LOOK any better though! :P

Anyway, I've been trying to take care of some things, after pulling back from the Bike Forums.

For those who remember, I traded my '06 Grand Caravan for an '07 Dodge Charger R/T w/ 32,000 miles (compare to the 137,000 miles the van had on it)

Well, I had belonged to a couple of Car forums since about Sept of last year. Got some great folks on there as well. The ChargerZ and The Great Plainz Modern Mopars had accepted me, even though my claim to fame was the old "69 GTX. The Charger Z covers the U.S. and Canada, while the Great Plainz Modern Mopars covers Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The folks not only do mods on their cars, they have (what they call) Meets & Greets periodically and usually includes car shows as well. They also try to support folks in need too. For example, they will setup a car show and donate proceeds to a person in need. Now that I have the '07 Charger R/T, I've done some modifications to it already. For example, the SRT8 Charger has the 6.1 Hemi engine and the exhaust system from one of those will make a regular R/T (like mine) run better AND sound better. A GPMM member had bought a NEW '09 Charger SRT8 and after only about 150 miles he had a hi performance exhaust system put on his car. He then offered to sell his exhaust system for $100. So I picked up on that and my total cost for it was about $238 ($100 for it, about $100 to go to Kansas and get it and $58 to a muffler shop to weld the pipes in place). The guy who I got the system from, paid alot more than that for HIS system. Also, I bought a hood strut kit that added a pair of struts to my hood and replaced the PROP that I used to have to use. Part of the deal on my R/T was that they would have the windows tinted and install a black rear spoiler. I got myself a Valley brand Hidden Trailer Hitch and put that on there, along with a wiring harness that just plugs right into the vehicle harness. Also, by now the complete grille is Black (no picture of that yet) Here's what I started with:

You might not can tell it, but in this shot, the windows are tinted, the rear spoiler was added and I had replaced the black Slant type grille background piece with a black honeycomb back ground piece.

Now, I'm trying to get things squared away so I can get started on the Super Hawk Cafe Style project. ;)

Yeah I did (and I'm not really used to be the one getting a GOOD deal, so it kinda set me back. Still got some more plans for the car, but in due time.

Yep, I had picked up a fair amount of parts for the Super Hawk, including a CL77 engine that turns over and has compression (supposed to be a runner) and I will most likely change out the cam so I can use it in a Super Hawk build and run a tachometer.

After all, when I take the Charger to these car shows, I need something to run around on, right? And the CBX is just a big BIG to be putting around on, at a car show. Besides, it just might also be IN the show! ;)

Jeez Bill did you say cl-cb 77 as in that super hawk?
I've finally got my basket cases back, now all I have to do is finish a couple more projects and I can go to work on my cl 77 cafe racer (I've got to finish the garden and the build a shop) it would be interesting to compare notes.

Yep, that would be the one Bill. I've got a good portion of a '63 and also a '66 Cb77 Super Hawk, along with a rolling frame of a '67 CL77 Scrambler and a '63 CL72 Scrambler that is mostly complete, just in bad shape. That's pretty good, 2 Bills withe the old CB/CLs! :o ;)

Seems as thought we REALLY ought to compare notes, as you say. 8)

Glad to see you are back.

When are you going to add some strips to the Charger?
peace,
michel

Thank you Michel, I am in the process of getting some ideas together and see what I can do to give this car some character, without duplicating what some one else has already done.

     Here are some possibilities:

just some thoughts, mind you. Been in touch with a fellow who does these sort of things on vinyl and you just apply them yourself. I'll be getting back with you all , on this, when I've decided AND gotten them on, what ever I do.

here's my daytona

Tramp, I just realized you had posted this. YOU'VE got a Daytona? :o Those are REALLY something else! 8) Is it pure stock OR have you been up to something?

Mine is an '07 R/T with the 5.7 Hemi and the 5sp automatic trans w/ Autostick. Since getting it, I got a deal on an exhaust system that came off of an '09 Super Bee with only about 150 miles on the car, when the owner had a performance Catback system installed on HIS car. I got HIS system for $150 and ME going to Kansas to pick it up.

Mine now has the Daytona honeycomb grille insert w/ matching lower grille inserts, the cross hairs is black to make the whole grille blacked in, I added a strut kit to the hood, to eliminate the prop, the windows have been tinted, added a black Daytona rear spoiler and with my need to be able to pull a trailer, I got and installed a Valley Brand "Hidden Hitch" as well.

I used to think that they just built a car and stuck the Charger name on it with some of them having appearance packages on them as well. I have since learned about the way these cars are built for Performance, reliability, handling AND decent gas mileage,
IF you can keep your foot out of it long enough. The braking system, the 4 wheel independent suspension system, the quick response power rack and pinion steering, This car HANDLES like a Sports car, Runs like a Scalded Dog, Feels Good AND is capable of getting the same MPG as my '06 Grand Caravan w/ the 3.8 V6 engine.

Here's how it looks now (excuse me for posting some of the photos w/ the GTX along side it. ::)

       Can you see the hitch?

They ARE cool cars and those who haven't check them (I used to be one of these) out, don't REALLY know what they are all about. I am more impressed with MINE everyday. Listen, if YOU'VE got a Daytona, you've already got one that runs decently and Handles well too! 8)
