Where are the Keihin CR Special carbs made?
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:40:40 AM »
I know it says "Made in Japan" on the side, but are they made in a plant in Brazil?  Or somewhere else?  Anyone know?

Just curious.  I'm making notes where all my parts were made and where the work was done and am not sure about the carbs.

Thanks.

Keihin is a big organization. 15 or so years ago I happened to sit beside a Keihin executive on an airplane from Tokyo to Dallas. I jokingly asked him if he could get me a deal on CR carbs for the 400-4. He thought they were made in north eastern Japan somewhere but he was at the Tokyo head office and had only rarely seen such stuff there.

Some information on CR Specials and any Keihin carbs for that matter.  Keihin, like Showa are wholly owned divisions of Honda Motor Company, LTD Japan.  The specials are made in Japan, but there could be parts from other Keihin partners all over the world.

Now you know the rest of the story....just think Harley's are made with Keihin carbs and/or fuel injection and they also come with Showa front suspension assemblies.  Who made who? Who's got more 'merican content in them... pre  '2010 Gold Wings or davidsons? And a lot of hd stuff comes from mexico!  Caught ya!

Honda has  380ish subsiduaries , that is a lot. I was trying to find a dealer count number, for the discussion on buying pipes in bulk.( Could not find stats on amount of dealers)

I did not realize Honda owns Keihin, or if I did, I had forgot. I think HD started using them around 1975 ish and the Showa forks around 77.. after an ill-fated adventure with Kayaba.. Kayaba forks were only about 2mm thick  :o outside of the seal area and broke a lot. I bored out a lot of Keihins, and cut many reflector blocks off Showa forks.. HD used a lot of wheels made in Australia for a lot of years. Their engines were made in USA, but I think the chromed (engine parts)parts were done in Ontario for a lot of years.

If the CR's are marked made in Japan then the majority of the parts must be made there.
