Topic: making an oil pan gasket

Any problem with just cutting an oil pan gasket out of 1/16th cork sheet?  Would the 1/32 fiber be better?

I had one cut by my local dealer, it was really thin. The original was too. My guess is the thinner would be better.

I bought a roll of gasket paper from my local auto parts store sat the pan on it traced out the pan, layed the old gasket over the new sheet and marked off the holes cut the new gasket out made the screw holes added red high temp sealer and mounted the pan, its worked just fine for me, and the gaket paper was rather think IMO.

No idea on how easy it'll be to take off the gasket as I haven't done that yet, need to change my oil soon anyways so I'll let ya know when I do.

my oil pan gasket was leaking so I replaced it with a stock gasket . When I took off the pan I noticed that the PO had done some welding on it and distorted it. The stock gasket didn't seal.I ended up taking some string and red high temp sealant .Has been fine since.
