I have no goddamn idea how I got here and I have no idea how to get out.

I feel like the prisoner sans the big white balls chasing me around.

Because I have too many bodies buried in the basement and can't risk being found out if I were to move...

No medic at the time there was a ski hill on Hollyburn but a bigger one on Grouse if you knew the area I lived at 19th and Kings, my daughter went through that area a little while ago and yes the house is still standing as of 2 years ago, same house although upgraded, she took pictures of it and the little creek that ran by it that I used to play in 60 years ago, my old man would have been astounded that it was still standing and the price it would fetch now. At the time people still died of exposure on Hollyburn and when I went hiking with a friend we startled a cougar and it startled us, it went up the hill, we went down the hill touching down every third hummock for direction only, I don't know who was more scared. So, it was not very urbanized in those days.

Back in the late 60's and early 70s we would hike up to the old Hollyburn Lodge to ski. 5 buddies with skis on our shoulders and boots packed, "I packed my boots in my newspaper bag"  ;D  We were around 10-14 years old at the time. Funny how our parents didn't miss us ;) I think it was $4.00 for the day. We would build a jump and spend the entire day going up and down that silly slope.

Here are a couple of photos that should bring a smile to your face.

I'm guessing this is your old house.

I live 45 miles North of the Empire State building. My wife and I were raised just outside the City. We wanted to live in a quieter and less crowded place. We had both travlled around a lot and focused on our careers, so were were able to move into the house on our 2nd Anniversary. That was 30 years ago.  We had opportunities to move but we stayed and paid off the mortgage several years ago.

I like the area since it is surrounded by the NYC Reservoirs, so there is plenty of open space and good fishing. The roads are great for riding, and I can ride along the Hudson River or cross over into Orange County and ride through the Mountains and valleys up into Pennsylvania.

Our population is pretty much like ourselves. People raised in the City and looking for some quiet, so we share a common the culture. There have been no burglaries on my street or in the neighboring area n 35 years. My taxes are high, but with no mortgage we pay less per month than we would in rent.

We would like to live a true small town life and may find another place for summers. While I like small towns I sometimes wonder if we would fit in, or lose the sense of privacy. For now we are content to sit on the deck, look at the trees, read a book. If we need a jolt, we can run down to the city to take in a show or just look around. I still have 4 of the same friends I met in 1962.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

Darwin has a lot going for it.
Plenty of work, a multicultural society, very laid back life style, great fishing and camping, no polluting industries, a great place to raise kids and isolated from the humbug rat race of the big capital cities.
The humid build up going into the tropical Wet Season can be harsh and demanding but all in all it is a great place to live.
And the Darwin sunset is just the best.

Looks great Mick.  I have been a bit fascinated with the Kimberley area to the west and a bit south of you ever since finding this website.  Have you been there?

Yes mate, it is an absolutely stunning piece of this earth and I hope that it stays that way forever.
The countryside changes so much as you travel north from Darwin, across the top of Western Australia and down along the west coast.
Travelling through the Pilbara region is great as well.
It is very rugged country in places and good preparation for a trip through there is essential.
Here is another link about the North West region.

No scenic overlook or great climate, nothing fancy, but I got it paid for and I want nothing more to do with another mortgage.

If your thinking about changing do it sooner than later because haulin all your stuff gets hard. Id like a newer house near me like a mile away! The effort to get my Siht that ive acquired the last 16 yrs in this house would be just short of an engineering marvel. ;D

i can pee anywhere i want outside, see the stars at night, and smell fresh air (except when the cattle come in during the day) but other than that it's great in the country. wouldn't give it up for anything.

There is nothing like being able to whip it out at any moment and letting go. Of course you need to watch out for poison ivy, snakes, and biting insects.

Jesus, you guys can't have to many Black Flies, Horse flies or other nasties and to piss on one the Wasps around here, even the thought causes sympathetic pain, because as we all know, trying to get it back in under pressure is at best tricky and God forbid, a Black Fly bite would itch for days.
