June 26th meetup and ride in the curvy North Georgia hills
« on: June 08, 2010, 01:11:54 PM »
Howdy guys-n-gals,

We are hosting another ride from Gainesville into the hills of Northeast Georgia on Saturday June 26th. We will be heading out of my house (2747 Quillians Drive. Gainesville GA 30506) at 10am.  Plan on arriving at least 15 minutes before hand so you can get aquainted with the folks and the route (earlier if you choose as I will be up and around before 7am).  We will be riding "about" a 100 mile route through the mountains and the route will be posted in the next  few days.  The last ride was about 105 miles, and begun at my shop.  Last time we did not take Richard Russell Scenic Hwy, and it will be included on this ride.  More route details coming soon.  As with the last ride, this is not a race, but a chance to just enjoy a ride meet new folks.

During the ride, we will plan a couple gas/rest/snack/picture stops, and I will post the location on the trip map that is coming shortly.  The end of the loop will bring us to my home for grilled food and "refreshments"...  I will have garage space in case of a pop-up rain shower, and a floor to sleep on if anyone needs to spend the night (PM me up if you are needing lodging).  There will be basic service tools, fluids, and compressed air at our place for any last minute checks.  Plan on bringing a $5 bill for food and "beverages", and at least $3 singles for parking at Brasstown Bald (In case we go that way).  Post here if you are coming!

Cheers,

Fabricator

Below are a couple pics from the last ride.  This time I am going to try to have a photographer friend there for some "on the road" shots!  Now get off your computer and tune up your bike  ;D

Thanks for the early heads up. I'm putting it down on my calender and plan on making it. I'll probably skip riding into Gainesville and meet you guys along the way - say at/near Turner's Corner if you're going that way up US129 towards Blood Mtn and the Richard Russell Pwy. It's a 100 miles one way for me to just get that far.

Anyone in the Cobb County area want to ride over with me?

Bonafide,

My place is -1/4 mile from 129 (Quillians Corner/Clermont).   You would ride by on your way to Turners (if you took 129).... I would be so hurt if you didn't stop by ::)   If you are looking for a general map reference, I am 0.3 miles from the intersection of 129N and SR52 FWIW.

Not really on my way, I'm coming across from NW Cobb County - thru Jasper, Dawsonville, Dahlonega - but I'll see what I can do.

Been putting some miles on the '72 since redoing the headlight wiring for a 2nd time. Rode to a local bike night last night ... headlight went out 8 miles from home at 10pm. ARRRGHH!

Ten-four!  I mistakenly assume that all of the Atlanta suburbs are South of me!  Once I get caught up in the shop I will finalize the route, and you can pick a rendevous point from there.  I look forward to meeting you.

Well fellas, I JUST got out of court for my previous mishap.  Good news is, it's not NEARLY as bad as I thought it would be and I may not need to sale the CB after all.  Soooo, count me in for a tentative ride.  Not 100% sure of it yet.  Chris, have you contacted James and Diane yet, or should I?

JP,

Glad to hear you are not being "wrung out".   I hope you can make the ride.  I have not contacted James or Diane, so please do!

Hey folks,

Diane and I would love to tag along again if our schedule allows. I'll add it to the calendar and hope to see you again later in the month.

Just a quick bump to let everyone know that we are still "on".  The weather still looks good, with only the typical "chance of an evening Pop-up".  I will get with Travis today or tomorrow to post the route.  I have been working from "way too early" to "way too late" most of this month, and not had the time to really go over the map.   I look forward to seeing y'all!

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris,

I will be there for the ride but not the "after ride" festivities.  I will be dropping my daughter off at a bday party up in Gville that morning and they want me to pick her up early that afternnon.

Looking forward to it.

Thanks,

Hey Chris,
D. and I are going to try to make it again, I should say we will be there (provided we don't melt on our way up 985 tomorrow morning).

JP,
If your girlfriend needs a seat again and you are still planning on heading up it's no trouble, the vmax doesn't care. I'll even put the backrest back on. Give me a call if you need the seat and she wants to attend.

Thanks to all who came.  Bill, you missed fresh pasta with prosciutto, roasted garlic and oregano.... Come by Sunday for leftovers  ;)   It sounds like Karen will be good to go for the next one too now that her ride is going again.  I am going to try and take Bill's suggestion to plan an overnight trip next time, as I have a limited amount of time before the "little one" arrives (wife's due August 28th), and "need" to get some riding in.    I forgot the camera, so everyone else will just have to take my word for it that the views on Richard Russell Scenic Hwy (GA 348) were aewsome.  As soon as Ray emails his I will get them posted; unless he beats me to it.

Cheers,

Chris

I am so sorry that I missed this. This would have been fun to break in the new ride. Maybe next time and CONGRATULATIONS on the new delivery. You are going to have so much fun. We will be praying for you her and the little one.

Sorry you missed us too!   ;)

Below are a few pictures from Ray and Bill (I forgot the camera).

Here we are at Wolfpen Gap on SR180

These are at an overlook on Richard Russell Scenic Hwy (SR 348)

For some reason I don't think that kevlar and leather pants are a kitchen requirement, but hey, why take chances with a 575 watt pasta roller!  Maybe I should have had the helmet and gloves too...

Hi guys,

Sorry I haven't been in touch.  I've been out of town way more than I expected.  I'd be glad to host a "ride in" to my part of the state.  There are several things we could do, ride up and visit Ft. Mountain State Park, grill out, swim (my family has a pool), check out my basket case Sandcasts.  Let me know what you guys think.  Also, I'm pretty central to Atlanta, Knoxville, and Nashville, so anyone from those areas may be interested in joining in.

Hi Blake,

Yea... I think a cruise up to your neck of the woods would be cool.  I haven't heard from Chris or Travis in awhile.  I'll be lookin for responses and send him an email next week.

Take care,
