I hang around here because when I started, I was a complete, I mean COMPLETE newbie to motorcycles, and now I can offer at least SOME worthwhile advice.
...well, that and it's not always easy to find people who 'get' my sense of humor, and the Open forum (and SSDB) is full of weirdos who do.

Kit I remember your trials and tribulations with the 650.... You gained a lot of stature in my eyes for your perseverance with the Carb's.....   it was fun to read all about it...

Matter of fact your 650 was the first one I'd seen and it made me really think about mating that engine with my frame.... then someone else mated the 550 and 650 engines and that was brillant as well..... I even bought a 650 parts bike Complete except the front end ..... for the conversion.... ( though now I'm not really sure I care because the 550 is fair enough as is.... no better but fair enough...

     I hang out here because when I got my 750K2 last year, I discovered what great resource this forum is, then I discovered what an interesting, cool, crazy and diverse community this place is. Some pretty intelligent folks here, and some pretty entertaining folks as well, and some that are just plain pretty Of coarse there are some that aren't so pretty, but that's when you look away.
     The best part is, if the BS get to be too much, the bikes are always there.

I gotta admit that I don't really get these types of posts!

I mean it is sort of like having a car with all of the options....just because you have heated seats doesn't mean you have to use them! If you don't want to discuss religion, guns, politics or whatever then don't! Or am I just over simplifying?!?!?

Why would we scale back a great forum or even discuss the merits of a feature or forum section??? Don't like it?? DON"T POST TO IT!!!!

Can;t say I honestly miss Heffay, he was OK. Either way was fine with me.

 On your other point about the diversity of this site I do have an opinion. We are about the size of a small Town, and like any town there may be parts that do not interest me or you.

The tech section is first rate, and a few of the newer members are doing some very interesting things, and some are quite skilled and doing some interesting things.

Some are newbies who are truly seeking information, and the more experiened folks have a chance to share knowledge  which is how this whole thing started.

The open areas are a free for all, politics, guns, healthcare, oil and a bit of T&A for spice. They get rowdy, but people who ride bikes can get rowdy. Bopping down the highway at 70mph with nothing between you and the ground but air takes a certain mentality.

It is a well rounded community and with new people coming in, it will be around quite a while.

The truckster takes a great picture... but the bike is a total POS... seriously...  It's one of the 4 550's that we hearded down to Mexico last year from here in South East Alabama.... ( Enterprise AL. ,  Ft Rucker )

I have 30 bucks in the bag's and box ( Krauser's ... nice junk, if old )  the Fairing cost nothing and is slightly worse then fair....crash bar came with the bike at $183 bucks on ebay...  new tires and chain... carb rebuild... and away we went...

Ultimately.... do we really need the politics.... or religion?  or lack of it for that matter.....

I NEVER go there! I don't come on here to argue politics or religion, I come here because I am addicted to bikes. If I wanted to argue about either of those subjects I am sure I could find a forum devoted to those issues. I do enjoy the various human interest stories and the humour, but in the end it's all about the bikes!

I will never, ever start a political or religious thread but when I read BS I am inclined to call BS.  I have a firm belief that issues can be discussed in a civil manner and doing so is a sign of maturity.  There are many mature folks on here whose opinions are worth listening to and when articulated stand on their own merit.

Blind Joe I think the greatest sin is being proud of your ignorance and in my life I've met more than a few, life is learning, from birth to death, if nothing else when you are dying you're learning to die. Ryder probably the same as you, as your life gets shorter your ability to absorb BS get less at least with me.

I got agitated and left came back got even madder and hit the delete button, both bike were in a pile had no job, no money and just pissed off in general.

spring came put the bike back together and needed some answers and you have to log in to search.... I found my answers and it don't even matter why I was pissed, mostly just at the world.

no wisdom to be found in this post, just my story and I'm gonna stick to it

Think nothing of it. I started the Babe Thread which is almost 200 pages of hotties. So I post a new Babe each week as my Avatar.  Do a search on Babe and work you way through it until you eyes tire or hand gives out.
