Topic: CB750 speedo drive turns when wheel turns....?

Hi guys,
I've read a previous topic started by MCrider about his speedo drive turning with the wheel.
I'm running into the same problem since having the wheels powdercoated and bearings re installed. I understand that the speedo drive is part of the bearing stack and should be tight but allow the wheel to spin freely, if I tighten the axle it locks the wheel.  I've only ridden about three miles the way it is and took the wheel back off to find metal to metal wear inside the housing.
My question is this: are the bearings set in too far, or not far enough as its allowing this metal to metal contact after the tangs are properly set?

Also, I cannot figure out where a 1" tall by approx 3/4" dia machined spring goes, any help on this is much appreciated.

are you over tightening the bearings? the speedo drive should just slide in place freely.

if I tighten the axle it locks the wheel. 

You may have more wrong than just the speedo drive... 
Was the spacer that goes inside the hub correctly installed when the bearings were replaced?

Not sure if the guy knew what he was doing. Is the spacer side specific?
I couldn't tell when referring to the microfiche.  When I place the drive on the wheel and correctly set the tangs it spins freely, when I apply pressure by hand or tighten the axles it starts to bind, I tried to find a happy medium before I installed it on the forks but it still spins and the cable was being pulled.
