Can I WiFi my cable connection to an as yet to be purchased TV?
« on: November 25, 2012, 02:42:24 PM »
I'm hoping some of you tech savvy members can answer this. Looking to purchase a flat screen TV for use in a location where running a another cable is not possible. I'm primarily interested in simply having access to content that is accessible via our current cable box. Having access to streaming content (e.g. Roku, etc.) would be nice but not my primary concern. Is is possible to somehow do this via a WiFi connection at the master cable box? If so, I suspect it may require a particular kind of TV in the new location?? If possible, a description of the set-up required would be appreciated. I've tried Googling, but most of deals with streaming media from the Internet. Perhaps what I'm looking to do was buried somehow in the answers, but I never spotted it.  :-\

The Wi-Fi that come in today's TV is for that streaming content.  I don't know if it will carry the cable feed, but there has to be something that will do it.  I needed to run HDMI the entire length of my house(not possible for a standard HDMI cable).  I found a device that does it with 2 runs of CAT 5 wire.  So I'm hopeful.  I'll poke around.

AppleTV, Xbox, ps3 are all wifi capable and will give streaming content over wifi pretty much for any TV, old school or hdmi
