Need Help Fast! Friend traveling and bike broke down!
« on: June 23, 2010, 08:40:13 PM »
Ok, so I know this might be moved because its not an sohc4, bue I put it here to get maximum exposure because my friend is traveling and needs help asap.  He is French and bought the bike in Guatemala while he was studying there - I believe that is it a 1994 Honda Roadmaster 200.  Its a 194cc 2 cylinder with what looks to be only one carb.  It looks like a lake 60's Honda CB to me, but internet searches seem to confirm that it was being manufactured somewhere in the 80's and  90's (not the US).  The VIN on the frame (steering column) is MAO1-2077263.

He has rode the bike from Guatemala to Macon GA on his way to NYC (epic, right?), and he broke down not far from my house.  Its not locked.  Has gas, has oil.  Seems electrical.  We have him back here now - its late.  I put the battery on the charger - its dead. Im gonna charge and check for spark.  How can I test the alternator?  (I don't want to send him off with a charged battery that will quickly die).

What Im really looking for here is any advice I can get.  Any resources for these bikes?  any pointers?

Im sorry for the non sohc4 bike post, but my friend is in a tight spot and I want to do everything I can to help him.

Thanks for anything.

I cant imagine that thing has TWO cams, right? :)

Anyway..if it starts... voltage on the battery terminals, off, at idle, and higher RPMs, please.

Cameron is right,  Check the voltage before you start it, at idle and at 3-4k rpms   That will tell you if it is charging. Also, check the fluid in the battery, it could be dry.

No, Im thinking just one cam ;D no 4 though!

There is fluid in the battery - it looks old though and dead.  Its currently on the charger.  I will check the voltages in the morning if that battery charges up - if not I will put my battery in and try.  Would have done it tonight but I live in the city and my neighbors would not be happy if I cranked up now...

Thanks for the help guys!

Sounds like a CD/CM200?
That's still being made as 250cc(Rebel) only minor mods from what I've seen since it was a 125.

looks like the late 80's tried to resurrect the 60's with that one but fell sort.

That's it!

The battery seems to be bad - didn't charge.  Could I put my 12-AH battery on this bike when the battery that came off is a 7-AH?  Looks like he can pick a new one up here in town though.  It seems like it's just the battery, but when we get a charged battery on it I will post voltages at off/idle/4000rpm.

Yes, it will. It would be helpful to put it in its proper forum to begin with.  ;)

If you can get it to fit there shouldn't be any problem with a higher am/h battery. Especially if it is currently fully charged
