Ahhhh!!! Clutch!! Help!!
« on: February 07, 2006, 05:40:42 PM »
I changed my handlebars. I removed the drag bars and added clubmans. They don't feel that akward actually. Anyway, since I changed my handlebars, my transmission won't grip much at all. It barely gets going, yet there is no actual slip zone (that I can feel) as there would be in a worn clutch that would work fine provided you didn't go wide open on it.

I must have changed the tension in the clutch cable but I can't figure out how to fix it. I tried making it tighter and looser (obviously looser first) and nether seemed to make much difference as far as I can tell.

I rode yesterday for 4 hours and experienced no trouble at all..

Has anyone have any ideas? The weather just got gorgeous in seattle and I won't be able to handle not riding tomorrow.... Hah

The clubmans are probably putting an odd curve on your clutch cable, keeping the clutch from engaging fully.  Check your cable routing for any tight spots, hard curves, or any other spot that might make it tight.  Mine was binding when I put the clubmans on as it went over the triple tree & down between the clocks, creating an odd angle coming out of the lever houseing.  While you're doing that, you might as well lube the cable.

Good luck,
Jay in Philly

You know, even though I had loosened it to compensate for the curvier cable route, I hadn't loosened it enough. I had to go all the way at the top and the botttom but it's runnign beautifully now. I just can't believe that I needed the max on both sides. I sortof posted this topic in a panic earler but have since gone out and tweaked her nice and smooth.

I like the clubmans way better than the drag bars but they feel akward without the rear sets. I've heard a lot of people complain about the clubmans but at 6'3'' I have really long arms and it seems to work. You can't beat the handling, either.

my only issue was that i was 6-1 and have a broken spine and pelvis... and with the footpegs right under me, was very uncommfortable.... its funny though i also ride a '01 cbr600f4i, and its comfy, mainly cos the footpegs are back further.... i'm with you they need rearsets, though again i like the foot pegs to touch down, B4 the engine!!! peace, and am glad you got it sorted...peace
