Engine paint question
« on: June 09, 2010, 11:16:36 AM »
I am planning on painting my engine with por-15's engine enamel paint.  I was also thinking about their por-15 high heat paint.

My question is:  Does anyone know how much heat those are able to withstand?  Will they work for painting my entire engine?

Thanks again, and ride safe!!

Darn good question, I didn't find the answer on the POR-15 website, did you?

Try asking POR-15 http://www.por15.com/contactus.asp

Check about a clear coat too.  I seem to remember POR15 not holding up to UV all that well.  A high-temp clear coat should  block enough UV to keep the paint in good shape.

I gave them a call and this is what they told me.

The por 20 is heat resistant up to about 1400 deg.

The por 15 engine enamel is heat resistant up to about 300 deg.

The rep. also said that they are both UV resistant.  I'm not sure which I will go with seeing as I have read recently that painting over existing engine paint may cause your bike to over heat... :'(
