I guess the lesson here is that if you dare to stand-up to say something in 'Church' while the Preacher is preaching to his congregation... be prepared to be told to ' f' off and mind your own business'........ even tho' church is being held in the wrong building ( Tech Forum ) and the preacher has something to sell.....AND you have a permanent post to sell your wares and communicate with members/buyers in another part of the Forum..... so that's fine, lesson learned about mob rule..............

Probably, a good choice would be a new board category in the vendors review section where members who manufacture parts which
improve the technic or the style of the bike can show and discuss their products. If anybody would not be interested in seeing or discussing new products, he could easily stay away.
The problem is, most of the riders are interessted in technical improvements, new developments or cool and unusal products.
Isn't it boring sometimes to discuss about the same 40 year old parts all the time?
But how to tell the board members about them w/o the taste of advertising? Just list them on ebay, wait until the board members find them and they start to discuss them on the board,.......and in order to avoid misunderstandings, the manufacturer as board member should not join the discussion?
How does it work, when almost every third post is asking for details or price and how to order? Most of member developments are made out of passion for the bike. I think, Vox (dry clutch), Mike (cylinder), Hondaman (ignition),  CCC  and many other guys asked this themself, too, right? And if we sell something, normally we make donations to the board. IMHO, i do not have a problem with members who are talking about their real good products like the Hondaman ignition, I like to see new developments. Ok, but what is a cool part? @Spanner, if you have a never seen before new part for the SOHC,...just show it to us, I'm (we are) interested to see them and to discuss them. But IMHO, I think, nobody is interested in reading adds of garage sales in the SOHC bikes section. Probably, this could be the difference. And, of course, all the member developmets would stay in one place and would be easy to find all the time.
Glenn, what do you think about a new section?

All I will say about the appropriateness of Honda-man's initial post is that he's earned enough slack here with his volumes of advice for even those who want to play by the most narrowly defined letter of the law.

As to the marketing question, my general advice is this: those you will be marketing to are not stupid and crave real information on the technical aspects of your product. They will respond to the tech information you give them in marketing information. Yes, it should look good and be presented in a professional way. Sexy or slick marketing sells a lot of crap, but it doesn't sell product to gear head enthusiasts. This is 15 years of experience talking.

Go forth and prosper, Honda-Man. You play it straight up and benefit the forum with your donations. But more valuable is all your sage advice here on the forum. As a professional journalist, I'm very familiar with the ethics here and by today's standards, I smell no cheese; i.e. violations of standards.

so since you say the price will go up to the consummate market?  does thins mean we'll still get them at the original price??   ;D ;D ;D

Yep, here at the forum it will stay priced like it is now. This place helped develop the thing! The original stated goal, not quite reached, was to make a "$50 Transistorized Ignition" for these bikes. I just don't have the volume buying power to do that, even though I bought enough 'stuff' for 100 units last Spring: the parts cost for each one is about $54 plus shipping.

But, going out into the general public will no doubt be fraught with danger and bizarre questions in large volumes, occupying lots of time.

So, I'm thinking of the "pain and suffering" charges, there...  ;D

See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The demons are repulsed when a man does good. Use that.
Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Go for it Mark, I've still got old "Test unit #2" on my K0, and although I've only put 1000 or so miles on it in the 3 years that I've had it, I've noticed an improvement in starting, idle smoothness, willingness to rev and fuel economy.

Ignition amplifiers for points ignitions aren't a new concept, I had one on a V8 Ford car back in the 1970's, and I've seen other after-market ignition amplifiers for CB750's with points "back in the day", but as a cheaper alternative to a full blown electronic ignition that's simpler to install, it's a great piece of kit.

As long as you can keep the price below that of say, a Dyna S, you should sell them by the boatload! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

yes HM there will be pain and suffering....

I have a court date on Thur because a chimney I subcontracted from a third party contractor 5 years ago allegedly leaked doing $2700.00 worth of damage.

It was a $700.00 job that did not even include flashing or roof repair, the quote was to fix the chimney and cap.

There is also some #$%* looking to cash in on someone else, some will want a new unit some will say the unit did damage and they want compensated.

We're all on the same team here... I'm pretty new and even I know that... Hondaman produced something that can help us all and he's trying to make it more affordable and available to others, I can't see a problem with that.  As far as I'm concerned I've learned more from his posts than i have from my clymer manual and he can drop an opinion thread if he wants to... thanks Hondaman! I plan on ordering one from you soon

He's not "flaunting" his wares. He's asking for help and considering all of the help he has dispensed here and all of the knowledge he has graciously shared I find your attitude puzzling at the very least. This is a community and we're here to help each other.

Mark, depending on the size of the ad, some testimonials may help along with color photos of the boxes. A photo of an anodized box could catch somebody's eye that might ordinarily pass over the ad. Good luck with your endeavor.

Mark, in marketing in a print medium it is important to "KISS" and visually impact the reader. The ad should be clean and concise.(unless it's a full page). Presumably the publication will do a review of your ignition as an article in the mag. That will be the most effective ad. For details the reader should be directed to a website that has the lowdown on the operation and installation of the unit, as well as downloadable install diagram.

Now, myself, I really like your avatar, it catches one's eye. HM holding a shining "box" throwing sparks may be something to consider. I am more likely to be interested in a product that has a realistic descriptive name, rather than a cheesy, trick name... as far as anything mechanical goes... it's not a candy bar, or soda pop. It's serious KIT.

So eye catching fun mascot, simple, clean, few words ad, with a straight up name... techy.. like... Analog Ignition Amplifier by Hondaman Inc.

Virtually eliminates points wear, Blazing hot spark, Track proven, Failsafe feature, 5 year warranty... no questions.

...........02 :)

PS are you looking for investors? ;D

I am a businessman, and I do advertise my business, and I have had professional advice from the gentleman who designs my ads. He is an expert because he has the credentials and experience and I'm passing it on.
It's all good though. Please look at it this way, this forum has kind of a "family" feel to it. Sticking hard and fast to the rules all the time can be overlooked once in a while... no harm in it... this isn't the Taliban's website. :)

It's alright Mick, he's posted a separate thread telling everyone that he's gone away for awhile and he's sorry, which probably means that he's looking for a bit of sympathy, and he'll probably sneak back as a 'guest' in the hope that he's received some.

Personally, after reading a few of his posts, I think leaving was the best thing he could do, I think he's got anger management issues that he needs to sort out. Maybe transcendental meditation would help......... Cheers, Terry. ;D

He's has only been a member since Jan 2009, Mark has been here since 2005 and he's criticizing Mark?! :o ::). BTW I found a thread of his saying he wouldn';t answer any questions if you didn't have at least 100 post count! :o WTF? And he began a video thread in the TECH forum of him and his lady on a joy ride on their bikes... that's helpful and full of information for us all... Mr. Pot meet Mr. Kettle.

But guys, this is becoming a thread jack, we had better cool it. ;) Peace.
