Right....back to business....

I was going to use a full dyna ignition which i already have on my 1000cc build, would one of these ignitions from Mark be a better option, i am spurred on by all the comments of reliability......Terry, Mark.....anyone.....

I suppose it's a matter of taste: I prefer mine simply because it has "backup" built in, makes a better spark than the Dyna S (regardless of coils used) and uses less current overall. But, it acts just like points, following the spark advancer's curve (and matching Honda factory dwell). I don't know which Dyna you are considering, but the 2000 apparently lets you set your own advance curves, handy on the track for sure!

The Dyna S makes less spark from any given coil than do the points. Mine makes a little more spark than a fresh set of points and condensors, and does it consistently, not wearing down over time. And, it can be unplugged in the event of failure, letting you plug the points back in: simple backup. Here in the American West (like in AUS), it can be a long way to the next bike shop on a typical day's ride!

I talked (e-mail) with him for a while: it's a nice setup, but lacks top end a little on the 750. Apparently the overall performance is similar to carbs, as the injectors don't deliver enough fuel at the top end to make them superior to carbs. Through the rest of the RPM range, though, he said it makes things a little more crisp, but I think he also said it was a little temperature sensitive, which he was still working on. I lost touch with him lately (my fault, not his).

There's several solutions out there: if I had enough time to mow my lawn, I could also work on my EFI analog system some more.

Interesting, i was told that the GSXR throttle bodies {not the cbr ones} would flow over 200 HP so maybe he has mapping problems. I have bookmarked a couple of threads where the GSXR 600 TB's have been used on CB1100's with great success. Looking at how hard the 600 Suzuki's rev and the fact that they produce more HP than we are likely to get out of our Honda's i see no reason that they couldn't be made to work.

Since you brought it up, Mark, I don't think this qualifies as a thread-jack.
Here are a couple of pics of my analog EFI setup on my 413 Mopar, that I put together about 15 years ago. Take note of the TPS.

I converted to Mopar electronic ignition a while back. Will your system work with an inductive pick-up?

We'll know soon. It's going to be tested on the CB650 pickups this summer.

Hey mark, I was just sitting here at work, idly daydreaming my day away (as I'm often wont to do) when I thought, "I wonder what HP is lost thru the friction of the points cam opening and closing the points?

I know that you've previously educated us on how the older style rocker shafts that aren't locked in place like the later ones are good for an extra HP or two due to the lower friction, so I wondered if you knew if any testing had been done by Honda on this subject?

Interestingly, my cousin (a mechanical engineer) was chatting with a friend who was an ex-Honda F1 GP team engineer, who showed my cuz some pics of one of the Honda race car engines, and my cuz noticed that all the bearings for the overhead cam drive were ball races rather than rollers.

The team engineers had estimated that this engine lost up to 20 BHP by using ball bearings, (due to harmonic vibration) but they couldn't convince Honda in Japan to let them change the bearings to rollers. It wasn't about money apparently, it was about Honda Japan not being able to admit that they'd got the original design wrong. Cheers, Terry.

hey mick you might need an ignition you can map out the curve,the gm delco module can be changed,,i wonder if they will work on four cylinders?,its the same module on v6 and v8 you select options once your in with a lap top,you can change firing order etc,,these are used on flat head ford v8s even,if they can be tweaked for four cylinders,it would be an interesting project.,use it just for the ignition part.i had an article on them somewhere ill see if i can find it.

Raef: I'd like that, but so many products over the years have copyrighted the phrase that you can't even use it in ads anymore without getting sued.
