I have a 1980 cb650 Custom and I believe the front break is dragging. When I put it on a lift and spin the front wheel really hard I only get about 1 to 1.5 revolutions before it stops, and I can hear the pads scraping the disc. I rebuilt the master cylinder and the caliper last year and put less than 500 miles on it since. I just spent the last couple hours taking apart the caliper multiple times to see if I've missed anything, but I can't figure out what if anything I've missed. When the caliper is off the bike and I squeaze the lever the piston moves out, release the lever and the piston retracts a wee bit, it's very visible. But I put it back on the bike and still get a little bit of drag. I read the brake section in the FAQ and the Honda general manual and as per instructions I put some High Temp Silicon grease on the caliper shaft (15 in the diagram) and put it back together, still drag.

Here's the few things I could see that are different from the diagram. On my bike I only have one bolt that looks like the caliper shaft, the other is pretty smooth but has grooves at either end to hold the shaft boots (12) in place. The bolt that looks like the ones in the diagram is missing the ring (16), however I do have a bolt with the ring on it but when I install it, it is VERY difficult to push in, is it supposed to be like that?? Do I have to have two bolts with rings on them, cause I swear the one that doesn't came with the caliper.

Thanks for any help, I've been up since 4am and it's nearly midnight so my minds a bit fried, I may be missing something simple.

For the sake of posterity (and anyone else as silly as me, and leaves parts out) the rubber part on the bolt is VERY important. I put it on and the tire will now spin pretty well, at least twice what it would before. The rubber piece I have is a little worse for wear so I'll order a new one at some point but for now I'm pleased.
