Should I be?

Sometimes its a pain in the ass getting that little nut on the bolt that goes through each cable and the post. I'm always hesitant to use my fingers thinking I might get shocked.  Is it even possible?

Maybe its something from your childhood.  ;D

Seriously though, 12 volts may give you a tingle (like a 9v radio battery on your tongue), but it's far from lethal.  Just be careful that you don't accidentally touch your screwdriver to the frame when you are working on the + side.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Speaking as a guy who made the mistake of crossing both terminals with a socket wrench I assure you it is far more than a 9v battery on your tongue!!  :o

But it is only if you complete the circuit....just touchin either side on their own is no problem.

just make sure you hook up the positive side first then the negative and you wont get any sparkes if your wrench touches the frame or anything. it wont shock you

If you complete the circuit with metal tools then yea, you are in for a light show!  But completing the circuit with flesh isn't going to harm ya.

Unfounded Phobia. You cannot get a shock, you can make a few sparks as people said.

An old mechanic friend advised me to remove any metal watch bands before working on electrical stuff....they get REALLY HOT, REALLY fast when shorted to the frame and touching a battery cable.  :o

haha, i think you're right. I think I remember my dad touching the jumper cables together, sparks flew and i think I've forever been freaked out.

'cause you have unresolved trauma from childhood, or a rational fear of battery acid.
