I used RedKote on my '71 CB500 tank last Wednesday. I followed the instructions carefully. I did not dilute the RedKote with acetone or MEK. The tank was clean and dry before starting.
I drained the tank the best I could and sat it on a wooden frame I had in my garage. For the first few hours, I would go out and gently roll the tank some more and tilt it so that anything left in there would go towards the petcock hole. It drained on it's on, with the gas cap open, since then.
The "backbone" and walls if the tank have a nice, thin coating that is dry and hard to the touch. Along the bottom of the tank and in the seams, it is thicker and looks like the coating on a candy apple. I can stick a long screw driver in there and touch it (gently) and it sorta feels rubbery. Or at least not rock hard.
I can still smell that "solvent" smell. The instructions stated that it's fully cured when the smell is gone. It's been four full days. Think it's gonna be OK or did I screw up somehow?
