Quick ignition fix?
« on: June 19, 2010, 07:05:47 AM »
I haven't had the opportunity to sit down with my multimeter and chase down my electrical issues yet so I thought I'd ask about some of my symptoms and see if you guys new if there was a quick fix to what's going on.
With a brand-new, fully charged battery, the starter button does nothing and kicking it yields zero spark. I have taken apart the kill and starter switches and the guts appear almost brand-new. The main fuse also looks good. Is there some special ignition fuse hidden somewhere else or a common wear spot that might ground-out? I plan on being meticulous with the multimeter when I have the time but it's always nice to have a heads-up of common problems from people who've done it already and spare any wild goose chases.
I don't know if it's worth mentioning it, but most of the lights currently do not work except the headlight and the left-front directional in continuous-on. Wiring is not my strong suit and any help is much appreciated.

The wonderful thing about electrical is the vast number of connections to checked when something doesn't work.  There's enough there that you won't get bored for days!  On a serious note, start with ground screws and connections.  Use your manual to track down where they are, clean and reinstall.  The Clymer manual has a good electrical diagram in color.
