What makes it time to rebuild your master cyclinder?

When it starts to leak brake fluid or when you feel they are not performing as they should.

If it's not leaking and it maintains pressure when you pull the lever and hold it for a while, then it's doing its job.

Now, if you want to stay ahead of the game and ensure the brakes do not fail then do it. Or if you are having doubts about the system. I look at it this way...when I buy a vintage bike I tell myself the brakes have never been rebuilt. So with braking systems 30 - 40 years old it is time. Take a look at what was in the bottom of my front caliper on my KO. Sure, they worked "OK", but time was against them.
