New bike - what do you think?!
« on: June 14, 2010, 11:37:29 PM »
I finally sold my Black Bomber which completes something of a major clearout for me - four bikes sold in four months! I do need (yes need :-)) a track bike though so have gone back to my roots and bought this....what do you think? Anyone know what it is?  ;D

Simon, I ONLY know that it appears to be a BMW (because of the gas tank emblem).
I'm afraid you're gonna have to do some educating, at least, in my case. :(

I DO figure that if YOU bought it, it must be a pretty HEFTY Hauler though! ;)

Ahhh so you read the filename Sam  ;)

Yep - It's a Tigcraft BMW single cylinder or supermono racer. It's bored and tweaked and amazingly this one is putting out 88bhp! The reason for buying it is two fold, first, I started racing single cylinder machines (a 581cc ikuzawa Honda no less) and have a terrible soft spot for them and this is on of the best out there. Second, the reason this bike is so special is that it was the development bike owned by multiple TT winner and now sadly deceased Dave Morris. Dave was a hero of mine when I went regularly to the TT and won the Single cylinder TT several times before being killed in a freak and rather horrible accident at Croft circuit.

So, I plan to use it for the odd trackday and the even odder race this year and just have plain fun without the worry of reliability or having to impress anyone. It's an extremely special bit of kit - the barrel alone took 500 hours to machine by Dave Morris himself so I can't tell you how pleased I am to drop on this little beauty!

Great to see you back Bill - how about that for a bit of background eh??

I never heard of anything like that.  I'm stunned, actually.
So you're going to tar it apart???  Is something wrong with it?

Rude to ask, I suppose, but ballpark- did you pay more or less than my house is worth (including the 2 cats)?

Sam. :)

Thanks for the input here Sam. I had no idea except for the BMW emblem.

Good to be out and about again. I've been taking care of a few things and making some changes to the Charger R/T that I had traded my minivan for. Might say I'm kinda personalizing it.

Great to see you back Bill - how about that for a bit of background eh??

Thanks Simon, good to see that you are still working with Racing Bikes.

I'll get out of here and post what I've been up to , for those interested. ;)

Thanks Carbine - it's a touch over 120kg actually :D

Hey Ernie, these bikes (bit like my VTRs) cost a fortune to build but sell for relatively little money. I picked this one up for £3000 with a further £900 for some tunig parts so I'm well chuffed considering I sold my black bomber for £8000  :o
I like to at least have a good look inside a new bike and take the running gear apart to lube and adjust before I get on track with it. It's a safety thing I guess after early race experiences of taking a new bike out on track and smashing myself up a bit becasue I didn't check it was safe..

Ecosse - YouTube video will apper soon I promise, I get the bike delivered on sturday woo-hoo!! If you push the front of the tank just in front of the seat, there's a cup holder that pops out. on the other side there's a small air conditioned compartment to keep your sandwiches cool! ;)

Yo Bill - yeah get ou of this place and get posting man - good to be hearing from you again

utterly sensible.

bmw, the ultimate driving riding machine! i'm told bmw requires you listen to "das deutschlandlied" through an ipod while riding or you void the warranty.  ;D

of course i'll have to go on faith with that one. when the salesmen see me coming they turn the dobbies and fire hoses on me.

i must reek of poverty. or something.

congrats on a great score!  it has personal meaning and that ranks pretty high. 8)

well you have finally seen sense and bought a rotax powered bike then ! if its badged as a bmw it is a 4 valve motor ,if its badged as an aprilia its a 5 valver . you now need some starting rollers [ not electric ] and a leaf blower , they get very very hot when they are not moving .  should be fun !

Now that's a thought Simon - leaf blower! Thankfully I have a donkey from the classic days and am working on an electric Rossi style starter too. Yeah should be a laugh and that's what I need right now to blow off some cobwebs etc and start having fun on the track again.

Got my Duc MoT'd today too - bloke started it, said it'd not done enough miles to properly test it and gave me a new certificate, result!!
