My shaft is binding...
« on: June 20, 2010, 06:36:40 PM »
Now that I have your attention...
I have a 78 750a... the gearshift lever won't return on it's own. I had taken it off to reconnect the wires to my stator after they had come loose. Now that I have it reasembled, this problem has come up. It only binds after I have all the bolts tightened up. I have looked long and hard to find the issue, but to no avail.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

My brother had a similar problem on his Kawasaki (a new model), but the problem was that he was not using the oem paper/solid gasket. He was using a silicone sealer. Apparently the thickness of that gasket that was not there allowed the case cover to push against a shifter rod behind the cover. Usually this rod was allowed a slight amount of end play but this gap was not there  with the cover tightened up without the thicker gasket on there.

Just an idea on a similar issue. Good luck.

You know, I had thought of that, because I am using a liquid gasket maker... I figured I was grasping at straws. I'll try getting a new gasket. Thanks!
