picked up a CL350
« on: June 20, 2010, 12:15:25 PM »
Picked up this cl350 a few weeks ago, the guy wanted $150 and I have really been getting the 350 itch now that the 750 is on the road..I want to cafe it and make it as light as possible for the curves so I really didn't want to chop up a mint bike so I think this one will work good for the shape its in. It has no title so while I decide whether or not to try to get one or just get another titled bike in rough shape to put the parts on I fix up, I have been tearing the engine apart to clean, inspect and paint it so I know its good to go ..
already found out that the impact driver is a life saver, saw people on here talking about it so I picked one up, don't think I would have been able to get half this stuff apart without it! The engine had good compression when I started to tear it apart, guess my main questions are, will I be ok putting the original rings and pistons back in? I was thinking about maybe at least picking up new rings and honing the bores, is there anyway to tell if they are over sized or not without measuring them? seems like the engine has been apart before, lots of random sometimes non metric hardware throughout the bike..the only stamps I see on the pistons are ART 10 and ART 9.. and final question, the carbs are really corroded and in really bad shape, there was about 1/4" of dried hardened varnish coming out of the carb throats..the diaphrams look in really good shape but the cylinder thing they are attached to is stuck in the carb..the mikuni VM carb sets are looking really tempting about now, anyone use them, is it worth trying to battle with the original carbs? sorry for the long winded post, sure ill have alot more questions, I was thinking about hitting up the honda twins forum but does not look like many people get on there anymore..
