Aight so the project has started up again since I have moved and gotten settled in. First up is the engine which i have cleaned and painted




I then got the frame painted 2 days ago. I used valspar tractor paint that i got from tractor supply company. I brushed it on so it doesnt look professional but will be easy to repair chips. The brush marks leveled themselves out nicely, it looks wavely only because i put it on THICK. I will report back later on what i think of long term durability but for now im happy. Has a nice gloss to it. I dropped off my pistons today to get honed and tomorrow I am going to lap my valves.





When installing new gaskets do i need to wipe them with a thin layer of oil or should they be installed dry?

okay a little update on some work i have done. I haven't gotten many comments back so far but I am still trekking on. Please guys I like the feedback so give it a go

Carb cleaning done, i used a vinegar, lemon juice, and water mix to help get them clean. Worked really well


Cleaned off my pistons and reinstalled them with new rings on them




Cleaned the head up, lapped the valves and reinstalled those with new oil seats or seals whatever they are called



The engine back together pretty much


and back on the frame to this point

I've heard that Diet Coke can help un-stick rings when taking a motor apart.  Never tried it myself, though.

That is total baloney!!
All a diet coke will do is get the cylinder wet and cause it to rust.
Do not do that.
There is a bunch of people on the internet that says cokes have acid in them and will eat up a nail. FALSE!!! If you do not believe me then actually put a nail in a coke and leave it as long as you want. It will just come out wet. Even after 3 months.

I hope your re-cut those valve seats and tested to see if the valve wiggles in the valve guide. If it wiggles more that about .004 it is no good. Check your workshop manual for test procedure and wear limits.

You cannot just lapp a worn out valve.

not sure what you mean by recut them but i will check the manual. I didnt do anything but lap them, now I am worried i did a lot of work for nothing

they looked in pretty good shape before i lapped them though, i just lapped them because i figured why not while it was apart.

it will remove the rust from a rusty nail, hence the thought that it will remove the rust from a rusty piston ring.

Boys i am happy I officially have a ROLLER now
So am i correct if i take off the head and do a leak test and nothing leaks then I do not have to recut the valves?

also does anyone know where to get some dust seals for the forks? both the kind that goes in the fork and the ones that go on top of the fork?
