836 rings, cant find a 1.2mm top ring
« on: February 08, 2006, 12:27:09 PM »
I have an older set of Venolia pistons (836) that I am trying to use, but I cant find a set of top rings to fit.

The wiseco and others use a 1mm top and a 1.2mm second ring. I measured my rings and I need a 1.2 top and bottom.

I know that the top ring is a different material than the second ring ......could I run the second ring in the top position?

I sent the piston out to Venolia and they could only find the oil rings.

I called Hastings and they confirmed that they dont have any 1.2mm top rings.

So far, I have called all the ring manufacturers known to man......or at least english speaking man.

No one makes a 1.2mm top ring for 65mm bore.  I did find a 1.2mm second ring (cast iron) so I am set as far as 2nd and oil rings.

Can I use the cast iron second ring for a top ring too?  I have asked the ring mfr and I got 2 yes and 2 no.

Or should I mill out the groove to 1.5mm and use a standard 1.5mm top ring?
