Did you feel that??
« on: June 23, 2010, 11:59:58 AM »
Earthquake today at 13:55 local time. Was apparently centred north of Ottawa but I felt it at my desk in downtown Toronto (5th floor).

With the G20 going on my mind immediately went else where....glad it wasn't!

Apparently it could be felt in the norther States too.

My first earthquake! About 8 hours north in Timmins. Nothing like a mine blast which is like a sudden shudder, it was all in the horizontal plane... whoaaaa.

Near Georgetown, Ont. I didn't feel it. Maybe because I was driving in my car? Shocks and springs would tend to damp the effect unless it was really strong I guess. Lots being reported about it! Logan's Line/Fault in the Ottawa Valley is mostly dormant but today it proved that it is still alive!

Wife phoned and said the building shook in Owen Sound that she works in and apparently people left the building and stood outside waiting for it to stop, she's about 25 min away at town speeds, I didn't feel anything just south and east of Wiarton about 25 min out of Owen Sound.

I've been through some pretty scary earthquakes in So Cal: Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of a freight-train running over your house!! As the after-shocks happen over the next few weeks, you get used to them; I would wake up, listen (is it going to get worse?), then, when I felt it was OK, let myself be rocked back to sleep..
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

We had some shaking buildings in Boston from the quake. Apparently there was a 7.0 quake up in Ontario a ways back the toppled chimneys in Boston. No damage here today, but some buildings were evacuated.
