Shifting Problems
« on: June 24, 2010, 11:33:02 AM »
Last year I installed Barnett clutch plates and springs in my CB400f.  I found it impossible to adjust the clutch to eliminate drag.   I figured that if I let the disks wear in a bit it would be OK.  Well I finally gave up and decided to put the original equipment back in.  I immediately found out what the problem was when I measured the thickness of the friction plates.  The stack of plates was over a mm thicker than the stock stuff.  Replacement of the old friction disks and springs completely fixed the problem.  But --- now I find that down shifting gives the feeling of resistance, a bit more force required.  Up shifting is just as smooth as silk.  Could I have done some damage to the shifting dogs during the period of incomplete clutch engagement??  If so what must I do?
