I've looked under FAQ information and have noted the differences in this SS model from the earlier "K" models.

However I can't find any testimonials telling me what people think of this model from their experience.  Is this a popular model vs. the earlier "K" bikes?  Are there any advantages / dis-advantages to either models?  Are they both desireable?  Is it a more, or less, collectable model in the series?

Any first hand information would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance!

...I've owned 2 of these...my first 750 was a 78F, and my current daily (can't say I ride it daily, but its my standby when I'm ready to ride) is a 77F...queen seat, and vetter faring!  ;D

...so heres a good explanation of the technical differences...scroll down toward the bottom...

...now for the anecdotals...

...probably not. The 77/78 SOHC's marked the end of the "vintage" look...well actually I think it started in 76...at least with the F model. But I'd say there "value" is on par with 750's in general.

...*some* of the F models had a defect where there was premature wear of the values/valve guides at around 20K miles. I've never actually seen any documention that included engine numbers, although I've heard there was a press release at some point that included the engines that had the defect. From what I understand the basic problem was a steep valve angle in the head that caused the valves stems to wear quickly. Symptoms where oil leaking past the valves, and hence lots of smoke from the exhaust. Never seen the problem on either of my bikes.

No, no more than any other 69-78 SOHC...well not as much as a sandcast...but you get the picture.

...I like'm! Technically the put out slightly more horse power, and I've always felt the 77/78 models (K or F) were the pennicle for technology and engineering for the SOHC's, so they are solid mills.

Of course like all the 77/78 models, they use the later model carbs, which some ppl don't like. The later carbs is all I use in stokers and chops regardless of the year.

The F2 has you in less of an upright riding position.....maybe because of the lower bars or maybe because I'm under height for my weight ;D  Steering geometry changed slightly and so did length I think...can't find figures to back that up...haven't been struck down yet.

F2 feels more comfortable to ride than my K1.  Dual disks pull the bike up better than the K1, pads also make a difference. K1 feels better when sliding than F2.

If I could stop my F2 leaking oil and sort out the carby (was running good until I put a different cam in), I'd be a happier man.  I suppose I could be down at the pub or I could be at home tinkering with bikes.  At least the wife knows where I am and only get in a little bit of trouble staying home.

There is nothing wrong with the bikes, at least you have that going for you.

But it's up to you in the other areas, they do have a different look since they are longer and don't have as much of that classic look.

I LOVE mine.  I fit so much better on it (6'4"), you put a cafe seat on it and it changes everything looks wise.

Has a great looking tank too.

Disc brakes is a big one also.

US designations:

75 CB750K0 Super Sport (official designation) aka CB750F or CB750F0 which was made for 3 months
76 CB750F1
77 CB750F2
78 CB750F3

The F2 and F3 have the highest horsepower ratings of all the CB750s with the most potential for issues in the head area but they also have the most advanced design.

With that being said you have your K purists and your F purists so be objective here. I am of the latter.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

It's the first bike I've owned, probably more by chance but I'm glad I bought it. I like it's looks, most people didn't/don't know it even existed, and it's performance, braking, handling, and power, are adequate for me.
