Remember Why You Own a Motorcycle?
« on: June 26, 2010, 07:17:07 PM »
I just about forgot. It is so easy to spend hours on here drooling over the latest cafe build. Looking on eBay for more parts and watching you bank account drain while trying to have the sweetest bike around.

A couple of days ago I joined the forum and have been glued to it ever since. I pulled my bike out the other day, which doesn't get ridden nearly enough. I decided to take it for a spin. It was near five o'clock, South Carolina summer beating down on me, fighting traffic trying to get out of town..... not much fun. Thought about just going back home, as the bike needs a chain and some other odds and ends. As I neared the edge of town I rolled into the throttle and sped away leaving the problem of society far behind me. Out running all the issues that were keeping me from riding. As the scenery turned from skyscrapers to barns I entered a low lying wet land area......the temperature dropped and for about five minutes I would not have traded it for anything. This is the most freeing feeling ever!

This is why I own a motorcycle, and why I will make more time to get out of the city and ride this year. You don't need the fastest or slickest machine around. Enjoy what you have in life, make the most of it.

I will wave when I see you on the road.

I was reminded some time ago.
I went motorcycleless for a few years back in the 80's, then when I got another bike, a friend said something to me about how dangerous they are, and my response seemed to come naturally; "Yeah but I feel so much more alive when I'm on a motorcycle."

I look back at the years without a bike, and it almost seems like I was a different person.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

just you and your bike

When I was but a wee lad I would ride my dirt bike and between jumping and going 60mph in the ditches, there was nothing else to think about than the matter at hand.  Then when you are done you feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Yeah if life is really stressing you out find a mud hole and pound the hell out of it, does a few things, makes you focus on a new problem, works your muscles and mind in a different direction and if you don't drop it and get all muddy, satisfaction for getting better. As far as the road goes get away from the city, urbanscape, whatever, find a a quiet road in the early morning, set your throttle, at about 50 mph, 80 klics, and stand on the pegs with your arms wide open and sing an aria from the "Barber of Seville or some other opera at the top of your voice, if you manage a chorus while keeping the bike upright, you'll startle the snails and make yourself better with the accomplishment( doesn't have to be opera just has to be something that you can belt out) much like primal screaming, does something for you, sets you apart from the rest of humanity (snails), there is a couple of reasons to own a bike.

My wife and i had twin girls 2 months ago, adding to our 4 and 7 year old boys. Took a few weeks to get used to the new routine, and get them in a routine, but we got it all down.  Life is good.  :)

...until...

My MIL came to stay with us FOR 3 WEEKS!!!!!

1 week down, and 2 to go.

friday evening, wifey says...."you havent been yourself lately, why dont you go for a ride. You are ALWAYS in a better mood after a ride."

...couldnt get my gear on fast enough.  ;D

Buy that woman some flowers! My O/L is the same; if I start getting moody she tells me to bugger off for a ride. Been doing just that since I was 8 years old and that was a LONG time ago! ;D
