1978 CB750K rear brake pivot shaft
« on: February 10, 2006, 02:52:50 PM »
Can anyone tell me if the rear brake lever pivot shaft (which is mounted in a tube in the frame) are interchangeable on all of the year of manufacture for the 750 K's.  The reason that I ask is that my bike has been dropped a few times by the previous owners and it is bent.  The problem is that it sometimes sticks a little when I brake hard.   I want to get another one because I will have to cut this one in half to get it out.

Thanks Dave

Well I have thought about this one myself on a few occasions, and my most recent  inconclusive conclusion was that the bent shaft on my rear brake pivot (78750K)was bent by Honda.  Your's is bent too so I am now less inconclusive than before. ;D  Seriously, figure out what part is rubbing and think very carefully about whether this is a problem due to the bend or something else going on.  Is your lever installed at the proper rotational position?  I think there are dots to line you up.  Is the stopper bolt adjusted right and is the freeplay correct?  I noticed that the arm on the end of the shaft almost rubs on the oil lines if they are not moved out of the way as much as possible. . . . Even though my shaft is bent, I can still get it out with some effort ;)

Does anyone have the Honda part number for the pivot shaft so I can order one from Dave Silver or similar dealer/parts supplier.

Thanks Dave

ok, i just went and did some checking, and i hope it helps cause its only about 10*F here (coooold).

i have two different size pivots. one is the more common one that i have on my 76K. i measured it on the splines at about .75in. the other one i have is from a 78F (rear disc). it measures at about .65in. on the splines.

i dont know which one you would have on the 78K. if you could measure and compare it would maybe tell you. if my measurements arent exact, its cause the 76K was hard to get to. if you come up with something different, i can take a better measurement. let me know.

if you need the smaller 78F one, i could get rid of mine.

the part # for the pivot shaft for K3-K5 is 46570 300 010. that should be the same as the bigger one (76) if that is the one you need.
i dont have any numbers for other years.

STLrocker, thanks for your reply.
The diameter of 0.65 inches seems about right, I also measured the length which was 4.375 inches.
As someone suggested that I should check the the dots line up, which they do.  I think that when it was dropped in the past, that the pivot shaft is a little bent.
