cb400f faster throttle
« on: June 27, 2010, 06:04:52 AM »
hi all. ive been thinking of how to go about getting a faster throttle on my cb400f, the closest i could find was a replacement cam on the carb which seems like a lot of fuss and fiddling when a different throttle tube would do the job. has anyone tried this?

im thinking that there may be another cb with a faster cam profile on the throttle tube. any advice? only other option is to mod the original which will be a pain. im also thinking a little spring on the carb throttle return to account for the extra force a quicker throttle would need.

any advice greatly appreciated!

I tried to put a different throttle tube on from an r6 (1/4 turn) but there wasnt enough room in the housing. You just need a tube with a larger diameter to shorten the turn but I havent taken the time to see the largest that will fit in the stock controls.

This is a cheap, quick fixed I'm using on my 77 550.

Hondaman's trick (in one of his many posts):wrap some fine wire in the throttle tube groove(s) to increase the OD. But only enough so that the cable is still contain by it at WOT.  Works a treat, and allows some adjustability.

I used a tube off a later model Honda.  CBR600F3 maybe?
