I can't figure out what these parts are from.
« on: June 27, 2010, 07:17:15 AM »
??? Finally got organized in the garage so the real fun can begin and I came across these 2 parts. I don't think the came off the same bike because the instrument mounting holes DO NOT line up with the upper tree. There are no part numbers, ANYONE? Thanks.

I thought the gauges might be off a smaller honda. I bought some 1970 CB750 parts about a year ago and they must have been in the bottom of the box or something like that.

They are from a Japanese bike, probably Honda.  The colors look like Honda gauges.  They are rubber mounted (isolated).  This would lead me to to believe that are from a later model motorcycle.  For me that means late 1970s or early 1980s.

They are off a late 70's 550, They started looking like that around 77 I believe.

When did the red "55" start showing up on speedos?  That will give you the earliest date possible.  I think the 80 MPH top speed was another attempt by the NHTSA to reduce highway speeds, but I don't remember seeing that on 1970s bikes.

Those gauges are not from a 550, any year. Maybe Honda but not 4 cylinder stuff.

The triple clamp with the bolt hole into the steering stem throws me off. The handlebar clamps with bushings were used on a few models.....SL350?

Maybe XL250 due to the shock mounted handle bar risers.  I'm just guessing, since the XL250 that I rode was stolen about 1983.  It was like a tractor though, slow but unstoppable with a low rev range and not a lot of speed.

Thanks guys for the help trying to figure out what these are. The real mystery is how the hell the got in my many boxes of parts. I also found some "mystery" foot pegs but they say BSA on them so I think I know what they are.
