78 CB750F carb leak
« on: June 27, 2010, 05:15:04 PM »
Have  all carbs dripping from the overflow tubes. I have cleaned and rebuilt the carbs, adjusted float height and replaced float needles. Still drips..then I removed bowls and filled them off bike one by one and although fulel level was below top of overflow tube, they still dripped. Inspected brass tubes and they do not appear cracked. However, I noticed that poorly seating drain bowl screws causes gas to drip from the overflow (there's a passage before the bowl screw seat that the overflow tube feeds) . I tried cleaning and polishing the ends of the screws and I got 2 of 4 carbs to stop dripping, but the other 2 are not responding as well. Has anyone out there ever tried to resurface or lap the seats of the drain screws? I imagine they must have done some sort of seat cutting when they made the cars...

Thanks in advance,
John

P.S. I wonder how many carbs like this are misdiagnosed and leaky float needles???
