jetting help for cb650
« on: July 02, 2010, 12:24:46 PM »
Hello, I need your help. I bought an 81 cb650 and the baffles were cut off and it wasnt running right (my guess due to no back pressure). I dont have enough money right now for aftermarket exhaust so I put k&N air pods on and I have a dyno jetting kit on the way to rejet the carbs. My question is to anyone who has done this mod or similar mod what main jet did you use and what position did you put the clip on the new fuel needles. I was doing some reading and I heard that the stock main jet is actually bigger than any of the main jets that comes with this kit is this true? I definatly need to make the carbs to run more rich because the air pods are making the bike run lean. If you have any input to help me out I sure would appreciate hearing from you. Thank You!   TD

I can't really help you on the specifics of jetting...but what I can tell you is that you probably want to put the airbox back on for now.  If you're already having one jetting issue, don't add a second one.  Also, from everything I've been told and read, the 650 is very hard to jet for pods (even amongst CBs.)  I got smacked around by enough people on that one that I finally decided against doing it on mine.

I'd get it jetted in for these "custom" pipes and get her running right-ish.  When you have enough for proper after-market pipes, put the pods back on and try jetting for your final setup.
