When I was younger and more flexible, I had the pleasure of working out and dining with Sensei Fumio Demura a few times a year. He is credited with bringing Shotokan karate to the United States and forming the Japan Karate Association, now Japan Karate Federation. Others would know him as the stunt double to Pat Morita in the Karate Kids movies. Hell last I knew his dojo was still in Santa Anna so I even bet some of our other forum members here have trained with him too...... 8)

In 1985 i made my first trip to a women's prison in Alderson West Virginia.  Leaving the dining hall after lunch I put a piece of gum in my mouth and without thinking started to throw the wrapper on the ground.  A short female ran up to me and said Mr Young please don't throw that down I work so hard keeping the grounds clean and the flowers pretty.  She was holding a shovel at head height and I noticed she had a cross cut in her forehead.  Sqeaky from the Manson Clan got her wish. I carefully put the wrapper in my pocket.

I got a letter from the guy who wrote 'drugstore cowboy'. we were locked up at the same time and had the same chaplain. both catholic, I think. he's from washington. I think he was at walla walla. I forgot a lot. we had other things in common related to our reason's for being in trouble. ;)

long time ago. I'm all reformed now.

I met the 'clarissa explains it all' chick and this redheaded kid from nickelodeon who had a popular show. I forgot what. while I was squatting in New York. he was a punk and used to squat, supposedly. (hobo around)

ran into gilbert godfried while hanging out w/ a bedraggled hooker at 3 or 4 am in NYC. tried to catch up with him to tell him I loved his show, he started to run. away from us. I guess I scared him.

mike ness from social distortion at a thrift store. rancid on tour when they were popular for 2 seconds, they had a seperate bus for tag alongs and girlfriends. lots of other semi-famous punk types no one has heard of.

and a bunch of comic book artists that no one but me and a few other geeks think are cool.

if you're famous and I forgot you, sorry. my memory is shot.

I was wandering the pits at a vintage auto race at the Navy base air field near San Diego back in '03 or '04, can't remember the island name now, but you have to take the huge bridge to get there.  Point Loma?  Anyway, all of a sudden I hear this wonderful racket and look over and see this huge bright red Edelbrock trailer with a few Camaros in front, and whaddya know, it was Vic Edelbrock out there warming up one of them.  It was gold and black, maybe one of Smokey Yunick's.  The damn thing was so loud I could barely hear him from a foot away.
Coronado?
Ben...you spent hours with Charles Bronson after he picked you up hitchhiking.  ::) And what about the time with Katherine Hepburn???? Not much for me. Have spoken to J Geils many times.

Had a conversation with "Zoot Simms" at George's Spaghetti House in hog town about playing a gig in my front yard on a Saturday afternoon ( I had money at that time ) but we couldn't work out scheduling before I ran out of coin.

That's kind of funny in a sad, twisted, ironic sort of way....

'Drugstore Cowboy' Author Arrested In Pharmacy Robbery

REDMOND, Wash. — Police in Washington state say the man who wrote "Drugstore Cowboy" has been arrested in yet another pharmacy robbery.

James Fogle was arrested with another man Tuesday night after they allegedly tied up employees at a pharmacy in Redmond, east of Seattle. The Seattle Times reports Fogle will be arraigned Thursday on a charge of first-degree armed robbery.

Fogle has spent much of his adult life in prison, which is where he wrote "Drugstore Cowboy." Filmmaker Gus Van Sant turned the novel into the acclaimed 1989 film starring Matt Dillon. The work was loosely based on Fogle's life robbing pharmacies to feed his addictions.

Redmond police spokesman Jim Bove says robbing pharmacies "is probably the only thing he knows."

too bad, he's a pretty good writer.

if it wasn't for prison, though he most likely wouldn't have written anything. I'm surprised he hasn't od'd. I guess he knows what he's doing.

he must've kicked cold turkey quite a few times. that's super rough. cement block beds and wafer thin king county jail mattresses, one sheet and one cardboard wool blanket, no pillows, no pills, it's not fun. KCJ is the worst. most people can't wait til their trial is over so they can go off to a comfy prison. crackheads have it easy, they just sleep the whole time. junkies get no sleep for months. besides not having enough energy to fend off your constant attackers. fighting is the only entertainment in there.

seriously prison is like the ymca compared to that house of horrors. unless you're lucky enough to be on the lower floors in blue. or a pig-servin trustee in yellow. me and this guy always wore red though...

I am just thankful that I have the ability to adapt, learn and change. a lot of people are just so stuck in their ways that it's almost hopeless.
