Correct Carbs for 1976 CB550F SS??? Code 022A or 069A
« on: June 18, 2010, 10:24:22 PM »
I would like to make my Orange (brown seat) 1976 CB550F SuperSport as original as possible.

Can someone tell me

1.  What was the correct carb.  Mine has a body with 022A stamped in the flange, but I think it is incorrect.
2.  What were the stock jets on this bike?

I have a stock exhaust but I think a previous owner swapped in carbs from a CB550K model.

Although not original your bike will run fine with these carbs.
069A is standard for F, 022A or 087A for a K.
F's have needle number 273004. and K's 272304.
According to the Parts Lists 022A and 087A carbs share the same needle set. Such a set includes needle and emulsion tube. So if they have the same part number, it's safe to assume sets are identical. Clip position may vary for forsaid carbs. The needle set of the F models thus differ from the K's. BTW, the 087A carb is the only one that shares the "screw set A" [16016-390-004] with the F's.

All my U.S.  F model 550's had 069A carbs.  I have a 75, a 76, and two 77's.

The stamp refers to the set up number when originally sold.  If the exhaust or air filter are changed from stock, the carb set up no longer applies.

Great info guys!!!
Ok.. I just received an EBay stock set of 069As.  My bike has stock exhaust (4 into 1) and airbox/filter so assuming the jets in the eBay carbs are ok and original, I should be stock.
Thanks for all the help!!
