wELL,
I must say it was rather hairy. The wife was on the back of cb550 for her first ride of the year.
Sunny and warm, going through the double set of S curves, one of which always has cow
manure at start of one curve. Drive over the blind curve/hill with cowbarn 10 feet frome road edge
and the bike starts to go sideways.
I managed to correct it and with the wife NOT panic ing drove off road, into a soft sandy ditch
with the front brake on.
Went over the handlebars.
Stopped, and stopped the bike from falling over by reaching out. Unfortunately I wasn't wearing my
gloves (I planned on putting them on later). The exhaust pipe was very hot, melted part of my fingers/palm
but at least the bike didn't fall over.
With both of us on the ground, checking each other for damage, the Massachusetts sportscar driver, with the top down,
watched us
go a$$ over teakettel never slowed down, Until I yelled something out about his anatonmy.
Angry, red-faced he slammed on the brakes 200 feet down the road, his girlfriend leaned over and asked if we were ok.
We were/are ok. Not a scratch, but if you ever get in a crash do it in front of a non-tourist. Locals usually stop to help
without expletives to encourage them to do the right thing.
peace,
michel
PS. This means I will park the bike for the summer, until I get a job to buy a new tire.
Life $uchs sometimes.
