CB550 wiring harness advice
« on: June 29, 2010, 11:46:36 AM »
I am getting close to completion on my '76CB550F.  The motor's back in the frame, front brake rebuilt, etc.

The wiring harness can be puzzling.  Most of the time it's just a matter of matching up the colored wires.  There are a few where I need to look at the manual and figure out what to do.

Does anybody have advice - for example, should I NOT connect everything right away?  Maybe leave the headlight and some other items disconnected at first?

I'm thinking if everything is connected, I turn the key and the fuse blows, I won't be able to pin down where to start looking.

Suggestions please?

If you fear that you have a short in you harness, try using a running light bulb instead of the main fuse.
If you have a short, it will light up brightly. If not, it should only be dim.
