Show me your rear fender
« on: June 29, 2010, 01:41:34 PM »
I am thinking of cutting my rear fender and "rolling" it back so there's just a little showing.

Option #2 is no rear fender.

Please show off your rear fender here.

Thanks SOHCers  :)

Aren't you afraid of throwing stones at the windshields of cars (or other bikers?) behind you? That's what the fender is there for. Just a thought.

I bought one of Carpy's rear fenders and had it painted gloss black. While it looks awesome, I never took into consideration that it might cause a wet asphalt to end up on my jacket in splatters... yeah.  ::)

I took the front and rear fender off my 550. Hasn't bothered me at all except the rain gets on the back of my jacket. Been riding it like that for years now.

Cut the front, rotated forward. Drilled holes and added spacers and a brace. I think it came out pretty good.

Tell that to all the a-holes with tall vehicles (jacked up pickups, jeeps, SUVs, etc) who don't have mudflaps.
Mudflaps are required per the CA vehicle code but it's apparently unenforced.
I've had 2 chipped auto windshields, dings in my visor, and a busted headlight on the 750 from kicked up rocks. >:(

Here is my "rear fender" or lack there of. The taillight is what I believe they call a "limp sausage" because it looks like a limp sausage. I mounted it upside down under the seat. As you can see, I don't have a front fender either.

Here's the shortened stock (painted black) rear fender I have on my 78K.  Tail light is an aluminum Lucas style unit.  The fender is basically shifted forward 2-3 inches and drilled to bolt to the same spots as it did originally.  It was a calculated decision to have be at least as long as the farthest back point on the rear wheel.  Keeps the water off me well.  IMHO a street bike that is driven in the wet needs fenders.  Front fender also provides a good measure of fork bracing on most SOHCs.

Here is a (old) photo that shows the rear fender pretty well. I just rotated it forward and made some brackets to hold it at a slightly different angle. Moving it instead of just cutting it lets you keep the nice rolled lip. Unless the bike has a tail section I think they look incomplete without a fender.

Hey shenanigans,  Is there a thread that shows your battery and electronics setup and how you did it?  If not could you post some pics and info please?   Thanks.

No, fender. The inner fender is still there doing its job. I cut the top of it to match the frame rails and allow the seat to sit flat. I dont mind a little water when I do get caught in the rain. The idiots behind me in can kiss it. Im so aggrivated with drivers lately I dont care at all.
