need advice on these rearsets
« on: June 30, 2010, 01:16:23 am »
so I am planning ahead and I want to get some cheap rearsets for the cb350f cafe project. Do you think that any of these rearsets would work well with some type of frame tabs welded on to attach them to if needed?

I might have a special pair machined for me depending on the cost, I am trying to keep cost low as possible right now. Thanks in advance

I am thinking about buying these, wouldn't be hard to fab up a bracket to suit and they look very sturdy...

A direct fitment, no, but with anything, you can make them work if you can fabricate.  You will have to make new linkages for sure on all of them.  You will have to come up with a new front shift leaver or possible use and modify the OEM one.  You may, depending on which set you get on the brake side, change your rear hub to over center lever, instead of under (spin it 180deg).  It isn't as easy as just welding new tabs on the frame, but they all can be done, so it would be more of a preference and maybe to your taste of what you think will look most appealing to you!

is there any other information as to flipping the rear drum 180 degrees?  what benefits does this gain?

A relatively easy way to attach those types of rearsets are 1 inch frame clamps.  This worked very well for me and they are plenty strong.

..and you would not flip your rear drum 180, but the brake lever on the drum.  Depending on the type of rearset you end up with, you are either pushing or pulling your linkeage and must rotate the brake lever to actuate in the same fashion.  Easily done.

I have a pair of the TC bros rear sets. They're well built but I find the toe position too close to the peg and I expect that if I do mount them (bike not finished) it will be very uncomfortable. I can take a measure of it if you'd like.

+1 on the frame clamp idea.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

That would be good, can you also measure the stock distance between the standard peg to the gear lever as well, just for comparison?

Thanks..

yeah those would be nice but dont really want to spend 120+ on a set just yet. Im thinking those 2nd pair will work well for 40 :)
