I became a Trusty Shellback while serving aboard the USS Bainbridge (CGN-25) back in 1982.  ;D

Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.

A person who has crossed the Equator at the 180th meridian (International Date Line).

The rarest Shellback status is that of the Emerald Shellback (USA), or Royal Diamond Shellback (Commonwealth), which is received after crossing the Equator at the Prime Meridian

heh...no, haven't made that one yet...

Flew across the dateline when I was 7 on my way to Okinawa with my parents, came back when I was 10 aboard the USS Breckinridge..kinda doesn't count when yer a kid tho..

Crossed the Equator and Dateline (seperately) in '73 on the CA Maritime Academy training ship "Golden Bear" (ex-Del Orleans/ USS Crescent City)
Went thru the ditch in '75 on the same ship, spent a week anchored on the Atlantic side because the snipes forgot to jack the shaft during transit, shaft warped, broke some blades off the turbine...definitely an educational experience!!

White Beach Okinawa was the Admiral's staff's home port. Spent Christmas there one year  :o  instead of Subic. What the hell were they thinking? Stupid management!
When you're a young man, Okinawa BAD... Subic REALLY GOOD  ;D
Those who were ever there understand.  ::) Musta been the grilled monkey meat on a stick...
