Speedo question...what year is it?
« on: February 16, 2006, 06:46:35 PM »
I just finished assembling the speedo that came on my $200 76 750 K after a disassemble, cleaning, and painting the housing. Didnt turn out too bad....just a few nicks on the chrome ring that holds the housing to the guts and a few bumps to the new paint job.

Was wondering what year model my speedo came off of. I know its not a 76 because the dial is not green.......the tach is though. From looking in the FAQ forum for the clock/tach references...it looks to be a 72 ???

It looks like it is the bolt-on type rather than the clamp-on (early K0-K2).  This means it must be 73 or later.
The colour is a bit difficult to accurately gauge in the photo. Looks like a a very faded 73-75 K speedo (normally dark green).
As you pointed out the 76 F and K both had light green gauges. (as did the 550 and goldwing)
Later speedos 77-78 had the trip set knob from the side whereas yours has it from the back, consistent with a 73-75.
It could be an 75F, but I think they also had their trip meter reset knobs from the side and they are more blue.

Not a 1975/1976 SuperSport speedo, as they are green and do not have the 70mph line.

looks like 1973-1974 speedo. Looks just like the one on my 1973 line and all and the 20 mph incriments. The background has faded.

Thanks for the info. Its not faded that much, just picking up alot of glare from being shiney and clean.

Speaking of shiney and clean.........I took my cam into work this morning and showed my buddy that has the 74 750 the pics of the speedo. He said that aint the gauges off of that bike......thats a new one  ;D You see...he wanted to buy the bike for the parts of of it and he had checked the gauges out to see if they were better than his.

First thing he told me when I bought the 76 was dont make him spend more money on his bike. I told him he might as well plan on tearing his down next winter so he can do a ground up on it cause Im going to ride mine this summer and then tear mine apart over the winter so I can powdercoat the frame and build it up right.
