New kid on the block....into the SIXES.
« on: July 01, 2010, 01:24:37 AM »
Jesse Leino just made his first pass down a drag strip on his 50cc junior dragbike in 14 seconds at Alastaro.
Dad Juha is over the moon as he was expecting Jesse to run 17s on his first outing in the UEM round in Finland. Well done Jesse. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Congrats guys, lets hope these new comers have a future in this sport. I just watched a program that says oil based fuels will be too expensive to buy in 5 years time.... ???  Lets hope this is not correct....How do you fit solar panels on a Honda?

Latest report from dad in Alastaro, (He's loving it ;D ;D ;D )

Best ET so far 14.391 and best terminal speed 74.54km/h.

Jesse has problems launching the bike, cause the new exhaust basicly killed the low end torque, he has to learn launching at much higher revs and slip the clutch more.
He's a smart kid and I know he will get the hang of it  .

I have a couple of videos I'll post somewhere later today.

Sam
This internet connection is too slow to upload the videos, I'll try tomorrow.
14.23 is Jesse's new personal best, 1/8 mile off course, if someone is wondering  ;D.

How was the gearing?

Sam. ;)
I just replaced the 14 teeth front sprocket with a 15 teeth.
72-74km/h was all the little bike would run and it did it at 150-160 meters.

Jesse hasn't had a chance to try the new gearing yet, Pro rounds are holding us back  ;).
My friend said Eurodragster.com covers this event and even juniorbikes so I had to take a look and yes, even JB qualifications are there ;D.

Best ET is now 13.938, we'll have to wait and see if it will go quicker with the new gearing.

We are having a great time and pics & videos are coming when I get to a place with a  better internet connection.

A little update at this point... 10 qualification rounds, Jesse qualified 6th with a 0.054 reaction time.

He won the first elimination round easily, ran a new personal best of 13.368 / 78.95kmh.
Reaction time was 0.054 again, against the opponents 0.371 so it was an easy run for Jesse.

Funny thing is that our little and very mild 80cc two stroker Suzuki was actually quicker and faster than the other guys 125cc Yamaha  ;D.

Next round is solo for Jesse and in to the semifinals he goes...

Jesse lost in the semifinals with a new personal best of 13.216 / 78.81kmh, dial-in was 13.35.
He ran a 13.368 in the first round and I thought 13.35 was safe but what can you do with a rider who improves his performance in every run?  ;D

He finished third and was very happy, not bad for a first timer.

I can't describe how nervous I was before the first elimination round, after all Kim Nieminen won the qualification and has been racing for several years.I told Jesse he can win anyone, just do your thing and that's exactly what he did  ;D.
