Oil screen-oil pan-1978 CB550K
« on: July 01, 2010, 12:55:33 pm »
Before I do the "that's easy....oops" how do I get the oil screen out of the housing ? And do I need to use gasket sealer on the oil pan or is the rubber gasket sufficient...(replacing the original pan due to cracking it while tightening the oil plug...argghhhh.)
Thanks in advance for any help :)

I didn't take the screen out, you can remove the part the screen is mounted to by pulling it straight down and disconnecting the rubber tube. Then you can clean it out from inside without damaging it trying to remove it.

I replaced my oil pan gasket with a new one and no liquid gasket. Hasn't appeared to leak at all yet.

Correct.  Do not use any sealer on the gasket.  It's not necessary and could potentially cause problems of the total top-end rebuild variety.
