CB500 fuel tank
« on: February 11, 2006, 09:39:33 PM »

Thanks for the help on my last post about fuel tanks.

I just bought a CB500 fuel tank.
I'm putting on to my 1978 CB550k.
I have a "newbie" type question.
Why are there 2 nozzles on the petcock.
Where do they go?
Which one goes to my carbs?

One more question.
Can a CB500 seat fit on my CB550?
Is it shorter?
I'm looking for a seat that fit up against the tank and is shorter than the stock 550 seat.

Thanks.
matt.

The early CBs plumbed the carbs differently.  Your's has a "T" fitting to split the fuel line from the single feed petcock.  The earlier models had no "T" fiting and fed two carbs from each nipple.

You'll have to track down some 7/32 or 5.5 mm fuel line and re-plumb the carbs.  Or, plug one of those petcock oulets.

As posted elsewhere. you can make the seat/tank pair fit (I did it the other way with a 550 set on my 500), but you will have to adjust the fittings to get the hinge and latch to line up.

Think he's asking for a "non modification"-method :)
How exactly do you teach abstinence though?
It's like beating a dead cow, it's fun, but it doens't really get you anywhere.
