Need Help with Brake Install
« on: July 03, 2010, 02:49:25 PM »
1975 CB550 K1 - Trying to reinstall brake pedal and the pedal is hitting on the engine mounting nut. The brake adjuster bolt is will not reach the brake pedal even when turned all the way out.

I lined up the marks on the shaft and pedal.

Wouldn't u just need to realign the position of the pedal on the shaft to drop it sown through from say a 3pm fitting to a 3:30pm fitting? I did the same when I had my rear wheel off and took the brake apart. Fitted the brake pedal to what seemed correct - near horizontal - but I was hiiting things too - so took pedal off and dropped it down a bit.

Do I have the adjusting bolt installed upside down? Should it be inverted from the way I have it?

That is the only way that I can see that it would be effective or ever be able to make contact with the brake pedal.

From looking at the Honda parts fiche it appears to me that the adjuster bolt goes "upside down".

If this is how it is intended to be then I think that the adjuster bolt will actually make contact with brake pedal. I received the bike in boxes so I'm not sure how it was on the bike originally.

Does anyone know if the brake pedal adjuster bolt is supposed to be upside down?

Thanks.

Hey Buddy

yeah turn that bolt up side down and bolt head touches break pedal.

 The nut goes on top

did that make sense?

Yes. As far as I can tell that's the only way that the brake pedal adjuster bolt will be functional.

I'll give it a try.

I think you will be pleased with the results  and if it still bottoms out you will have to remove pedal and lower it on the shaft as mentioned earlier.
