Back to some talk about motorcycles, I got my new jets in today. The carb kits came with 110s and the bike wouldn't do much better than 4000 rpm. I ordered a set of 120s and a set of 130s and took them to our motorcycle guru. He said he'd get them in and see how it runs. Very exciting. He got everything else sorted out so I'm hopeful for the carbs.

Same problem I am having...bike absolutely refuses to go over 4k.

Well...it runs and it runs like a beast. Got it back from the motorcycle guru a couple of days ago and he pulled off what can only be considered a miracle. The headlight now works. High and low beam. The rear brake works very well. The carbs are tuned up and synced and the thing no longer idles at over 2000 rpms. The tach cable unfortunately broke so I don't know exactly where it is idling but it is much lower. A new cable is in the mail though. Thank you Motion Pro.

The carbs have the 120 jets in them and I still have the 130s if I decide that it is running too lean. The floats on two of the carbs were way off and the throttle slides all needed adjustment. I was impressed that he was able to get it taken care of as bad as they were.

The best news out of all of i,t however, is that I took it for a spin around the neighborhood and it was so much fun. The first day I had it back I just rode it around my back yard and up and down the drive way. Today however it needed some pavement (or brick in the case of my street).

This is honestly the biggest bike I have ever ridden and the only one I have ever ridden with a manual transmission. Everything else has been little guys with the centrifugal clutch system. Definitely not used to the power that this thing has. I'm sure many of you know what its like.

Got the seat mounted up today. All I have to do to make it legal is hook up the tail light and rear blinkers. Then I can get it inspected and tagged. Very exciting.

Yea I hear ya united the biggest I had ridden before my 750 was a like 250cc or smaller... Watch those skipped shifts and let the engine come back down before you let the clutch out. trust me... almost got thrown off it the first time I did it.  Other than that you'll get used to it just take it easy at first and remember these are old bike and handle like old bikes.

Thanks for the advice old75. I hope to be comfortable on it before the end of the year. Getting used to the clutch was easier than I thought it would be though. Had a few times where the front end jumped up a little but I'm getting to where I can get it rolling smoothly.

Yea it could be mine but the cluch seems very touchy on these old honda's greqat for speed shifting but not so great for taking off from a stop.  You'll get used to it.

My clutch seems a little stiff but it is probably from having sat for so long. Maybe it'll loosen up after a while. I have been practicing taking off and getting the clutch and brake timing down for stopping. The good thing is that I have a buddy who rides that is coaching me along the way and I know a couple of older guys that like to go out and ride that have been into these bikes since they came out back in the 60's.

Well, I have some good news and some bad news. I got my motorcycle permit today so I can ride. Unfortunately when I went to get the thing inspected and tagged  I got the runaround from all the people and couldn't get it tagged today. I called up yesterday and asked them what I had to do. I told them I had a bill of sale and my insurance card and they told me I would have to get it inspected on either tuesday or thursday between 11 am and 1 pm. So I got the bike loaded in the back of my truck and drove it up to the police station in the next town because they won't let our police station do inspect it. When I went in the lady asked for my title and I told her the situation. She told me I couldn't get it inspected without a title. So I've got the police telling me I can't have it inspected without a title and the title people saying I can't get it registered with the state without an inspection. A few foul words later with the police department lady and I was headed to the tag office. When I went in there and explained it to them none of them had a clue. Finally one person in there figured out what was going on and said that inspections with a bill of sale can only be done at the courthouse on wednesdays from 12 to 12:30. And it costs more to have that done. After telling them that the whole situation was absolutely ridiculous I left and now I have to go back tomorrow if I can get off work. For osme reason government run offices have the worst hours and give me the most trouble. I think I should run for political office and try to create reforms in the way vehicles are tagged.

find a friend in Michigan ,   send him a bill of sale and a picture of the bike and the vin.   they will title in in your fiends name and he signs it and sends it back to you.

just did that with my scrambler.  works.

They wouldnt title it in indiana, same run around.

I might have to do that at some point but I'm going to try the thing tomorrow at 12. Hopefully that will go smooth and I can get it taken care of. I'm definitely not going to give up though. I haven't put all of this time and effort into it to let it sit in the garage.

in indiana it use to be you just needed a bill of sale and a Police affidavit and your good, now every time they say, you need a title or go to the city building and get a new vin # and blah blah.   I gave my friend $40 to do register mine in Michigan, and had it back with in 2 weeks.

Well, more bad news. I went to have it inspected today as I was told to do. Turns out that the State Troopers come in and do inspections on Wednesdays. Unfortunately, the guy I talked to said that the State of Kansas no longer issues titles to vehicles with vin numbers that aren't 11 or 17 digit numbers. These bikes only have 7 digit numbers unless you include the model number which would make it 12. So, the guy told me I would have to drive it to the Highway Patrol center to have a new vin issued to it. The Highway Patrol center is an hour away and I really don't think I should have to deal with this just because this state has such stupid laws. We have a tag office to register vehicles unless it is an out of state or lost title vehicle. If it is an out of state vehicle then you have to take it to the Police Station to have it inspected only it can't be the police station where I live. If it is a lost title vehicle then you have to have it inspected by the State Troopers unless it doesn't have an 11 or 17 digit vin. If it has anything besides the 11 or 17 digit vin then you have to take it to the Highway Patrol. If I take it to the Highway Patrol and they tell me they can't do anything them I am going to freak. How hard is it to create a simple system housed all in one building? Seriously?

I actually asked a guy about doing the Michigan thing today and he said it wouldn't help. Kansas supposedly refuses to use the 7 digit vin numbers anymore. Makes no sense to me but whatever. I just want to ride the dang thing. Never thought it would be so hard.

Just find out exactly what you need to do and do it!
Sounds like whoever you have been talking to doesn't know.
Call the Hwy Patrol and get accurate info.
