Can this be fixed?
« on: July 13, 2010, 09:31:36 AM »
Just wondering if the broken piece can be fixed on the part below without having to buy a new triple tree. Left side of the tree next to the neck.

Thanks.

That's the steering stop.  You can weld it back on or you can drill and tap and install a bolt/stud to take its place.

Looks to me like a simple weld repair should be sufficient. I would be sure to grind the side the stop actually hits, so that it stops in the right place, not on the weld.

Check the tab on frame for bending or cracked welds, straighten out if needed. I would NEVER grind off the stock bracket and bugger up the frame value,  just to repair a 25$ triple tree.. your choice.
Triple can be welded up, and work fine, drill & tap is tricky and hard to get it to look right.
