I just finished putting the bike back together after replacing both top and bottom head gaskets, various rings, o-rings, etc. etc. etc. This was my first major project with my '77 CB550 I bought last November. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributed their advice to me on my posts. I couldn't have done without you guys or this forum. I am so stoked I took her out today and put about 120 miles on her. She runs better than ever and no oil leaking at all! I am so stoked about it. Total cost was about $200 bucks in parts and tools and about 40 hours of labor, some good, some frustrating. This was a great learning experience for me and can't wait to maybe get a 750 also and do a full on 'cafe' with it.
Major problems I experienced was getting the head back on, carbs back on, manifold on, exhaust on, gapping the points, and a few other small items. I have to give a shout out to Bikebandit for promptly getting parts to me. Although I am no expert, I think I can assist others in the future as well.
Thanks again!!!
