Mounting Stock Signals
« on: July 06, 2010, 10:10:06 AM »
I'm nixing the crappy plastic aftermarket blinks a previous owner put on my cb550f and putting on stock.
Problem is I'm having a hard time figuring out how to mount them and run the wire (in front). The screws that came with the blinks won't fit in the fork holes they're supposed to go in, and it doesn't seem like wire can run through the fork either, but it has to right?

Can anyone share some wisdom?

Do you still have the stock upper fork covers/headlight mount?
What year is your F?  There are two different styles/arrangements for the F.

I think the shrouds/headlight mount I have are stock.
I'll need new bolts to hold up the headlight because the current blinks are doing that job.
My fork has one bolt missing where the front blinker (left side) goes, so I know I'll need another one of those (it's the hollow bolt that I think the blink screws into).
I should get a picture so it's less confusing, but I'm trying to figure how the bolt on my blinker will eventually screw into the fork and if the wire feeds into the fork.

A quick pic of your mounts would help. There are, as TT said, different kinds. And I don't know which year has which.
Or if your mounts are actually stock?

So here's the handsome left side

And the battered right side (notice no bolt on fork)

I think I may have figured it out. The stock blinks have threads on the end but they don't actually screw in; they fit over the bolts and clamp down.
Does that sound right?

That is exactly right. And the wires run through the middle.

Here is a slightly blurry pic of mine, which is a stoock 1976 CB550F.

you can see the black wires creeping out from behind the chrome.

Thanks Cameron. My blinkers came with an extension that has the clamp around it so I guess I'll have to take that extension off and clamp around the bolt.
Very helpful!

Also, I dont know if your originals came with it... but check this diagram.
YOu can see there is a different bolt that threads on there.
It has a rough end that the signals themselves clamp onto.. and is not the same as the bolt you have.:

good luck!
