basket cases every ware and not help for miles
« on: July 04, 2010, 12:34:39 AM »
About a year a go I purchased a 1978 cb750f. I payed about 250 for it and was surprised to find out it actually had a k8 engine to add to about dozen missing parts. I ended up finding an f3 motor with a bad case (apparently had a little chain malfunction) it has a rear motor mount broken off the rear case cracked. I guess my question is can I use the k8 upper and lower case halves and the f3 jugs and top end? Along with that I would like to know where I could find a "new" wiring harness and a good place to have my gen rewound and wired by someone that knows these grate old bikes

P.S. How/ware the hell are the barring sizes stamped so I can get the right size mains and rods

The wiring harness' for 77-78 f and k models are almost non-existent, eBay is pretty much the ONLY place I've seen them other than here on the forums  I don't think F headers and jugs can go on a K model, think someone else was wondering that and the answer was no. As for the generator it's actually an alternator hence the 3 yellow 3-phase ac wires, a ground and a field coil wire, but for a rewind I think you could just buy a new one for the cost of re-wiring, otherwise there's a place here where I live that rewind all kinds of electromechanical coils.

F3 pistons and heads and jugs must be matched together, they are different from K's, the F header hits the drum brake pivot on a K.

The numbers are stamped on the case and crank as seen in the image. The small white box on the case is the area you can expect to find the numbers (letters). They are usually all one letter "BBBBB"
