Video of a bike being stolen
« on: July 06, 2010, 07:12:53 PM »
Pay attention to how they do it.  They drive by and spot the bike.  They park and wait to see if anyone's paying attention.  Guy gets out and waits some more seeing if anyone's watching.  They then pull in front of the bike so if the owner is across the street he can't see what's happening.  They use a minivan which sits low to the ground making it easier to load the bike.

No license plate on the van. They waited until there wasn't any traffic on their side of the street.  Those guys are pretty good.

You see someone double-parked do you stop and ask them what they're doing?

Is that NYC? Motion detector might be helpful, if someone pays attention to the alarm noise.

:P Obviously they had done it before. Cops should set up a sting and follow them back to the "stash". They probably could recover quite a few "HOT" ones!

Damn, that van was there a long time.
Many states do not requre license plates on the front.

That was my first thought, too, but I watched the video again and all the other cars driving by had plates on the front.

I'd set up my own little sting operation, and just when they started to boost the bike out comes my big red 6000 lb ford battering ram.  I hate thieves!!!

And then the thieves scatter, abandoning the stolen van they were using to steal the motorcycle, and you're left to deal with the aftermath and the cops.

Sorry, I think I'm just in a "wet blanket" kind of mood right now. ::)

Two options:

Wet blanket Gordon says they'll sue you for entrapment and assault/battery and win.

Fun Gordon says to ditch the tasers and hose them down with a super-soaker filled with kerosene before launching an all-out roman candle assault! ;D

Ah, we all have our brands of justice dont we? Too bad you know the law isnt going to do much on this (most likely), which makes roman candles sound great.

The Ford or the super-soaker and the fireworks would be NO.1 with a bullet on youtube!!

One of the bike trackers might help. It alerts if the bike is moved outside a small perimeter with the key off. The unit itself uses GPS combined with a cell phone using text messages. The nice thing is you don't have to even know it has been stolen as it alerts the tracking company and they call you. One stolen bike with a tracker led police here in Florida to a lot of other stolen bikes. The cost is several hundred bucks plus a monthly tracking fee.

The main purpose of them is so people (wife ?) can keep up with you on trips. They plot your course on Google maps or something similar.

Actually, in this case, by the time the guy could have run across the street, the bike would have been gone.  :(
